School Street, Arlington
This Arlington, MA kitchen remodel features blue-stained poplar and caramel-stained alder cabinetry, MSI quartz countertops, and a thoughtfully designed wall opening that increased natural light, improved seating, and transformed the functionality of the space.
Project Overview: This kitchen remodel in Arlington, Massachusetts showcases how thoughtful design and strategic space planning can dramatically improve the way a family lives in their home. CDI Kitchens supplied and installed Shiloh semi-custom cabinetry, MSI quartz countertops, an ivory matte tile backsplash, and Berenson cabinet hardware, transforming a dated kitchen into a bright, functional gathering space tailored to the homeowners' daily routines.
The design features a distinctive combination of blue-stained poplar cabinetry and warm caramel-stained alder cabinetry. The two wood species share a subtle grain pattern that allows the contrasting finishes to work together harmoniously, creating warmth, depth, and visual interest throughout the kitchen. MSI quartz countertops and an ivory matte tile backsplash provide a clean, timeless backdrop that complements the rich cabinetry finishes while maintaining a bright and welcoming atmosphere.
A key element of the renovation involved raising an existing window sill and creating an opening in the wall connecting the kitchen to the rear of the home. By thoughtfully incorporating a structural post already concealed within the wall, CDI Kitchens was able to introduce significantly more natural light from the adjacent mudroom without the expense of installing a structural beam. This strategic design solution transformed the feel of the space, making the kitchen brighter and more connected to the rest of the home.
The newly created opening also provided an opportunity to incorporate dedicated seating areas that better suit the family's lifestyle. By relocating seating away from the primary work zones, the design allows children and guests to comfortably gather in the kitchen while maintaining efficient workflow for cooking and meal preparation. This thoughtful approach eliminated the need for the large kitchen table that previously occupied valuable floor space, creating a more open and functional layout. This Arlington kitchen renovation demonstrates how creative design solutions, semi-custom cabinetry, and thoughtful space planning can maximize natural light, improve functionality, and create a kitchen that better supports the way a family lives every day.
